Details of the quality standards for pellets.

A single European standard for wood pellets for a long time did not exist. An example of this are the first of the most common quality standards, such as: «Din» / «Din Plus» in Germany, Austria «O-Norm», «SS» in Sweden. Less is known were the Swiss «SN» and the British "Biofuel Procedure Code". When international trade in biofuels, especially in Europe, the most quoted German «Din» / «Din Plus». Until now, even if the manufacturer does not have this official certificate, and regularly orders study of its products in independent laboratories (preferably having a European fame), the manufacturer indicates that its products are the characteristics corresponds exactly to the standard «Din» / «Din Plus», having its say in Europe.

It is worth to point out that in March 2010 a common certification system for Europe is a certification «EN 14961-2»: «EN Plus-A1» (premium pellets for home heating boilers), «EN Plus-A2» (standard quality pellets for home heating boilers), «EN-B» (wood pellets for industrial use). Previous standards have lost their force from the date of entry into force of a single European standard «EN». While many manufacturers / traders / buyers are still guided by Din, including those manufacturers whose production is certified according to previously Din Plus and the certificate is valid. Detailed characteristics of the pellets according to the same standards of quality and relatively new «EN» shown. It should be noted that these quality standards are not very different from each other. However, the main indicators are the diameter, length, bulk weight (density), calorific value, moisture content, ash content, sulfur content and other solids, the mechanical properties of the pellets (the percentage of wear and dust).
